Our next Picnic * PRESS RELEASE *

>> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <<

Sunday, November 12, 2006 "Picnic for Peace" invites the community to join together for an evening of food, fellowship and renewed commitment to alternatives to violence. Picnic for Peace is a circle of friends with no political or religious affiliation – only a shared belief that our world can no longer tolerate war. Over thirty people joined together in September on the Green for the first peace picnic in Dover. Attendees found common cause in their desire for a peaceful world and exchanged individual and organizational ideas and actions intended to reach that end. The November 12 picnic is timed to coincide with Veteran's Day. Letters written by soldiers throughout American history will be read at the picnic to honor the sacrifices of our warriors and to remind us that soldiers and civilians alike can envision a future free from the need for war. The picnic will run from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Dover Presbyterian Church, 54 South State Street, across from the Dover Public Library. Picnic for Peace wished to thank the church for its donation of space but emphasizes again that it has no religious or political sponsorship. All are welcome at the picnic and are invited to bring their own food and drink. Paper products will be provided, and attendees are invited, if they choose, to bring desserts to share. Future picnics plan to promote peace through the arts. For more information, email jan_c311 (the 'at' symbol) mac.com.
